As most of you have heard, there was a catastrophic 8.0 earthquake that struck Southwest China on May 12.
The numbers are staggering: over 55,000 people confirmed dead. 245,000 people have been hospitalized. 5 million people left homeless.
As a result of this tragedy, thousands of children will become orphans, or need temporary shelter until they reunite with their families.
Earthquake Relief Work Short Film
As a father of a 7 year old child, and expat in China for almost 20 years, I've decided to commit all of my company's resources to helping the earthquake relief effort, focusing our energies on the innocent children of this heartbreaking tragedy.
We have found a truly wonderful Non-Profit Organization called Half The Sky Foundation (HTS), which works in China to provide nuture and care to China orphans. During the current crisis, Half the Sky has focused on providing emergency relief, as well as temporary or long term foster care, for the children orphaned or separated from their families during the quake.
Currently GHF has 2 teams working round the clock: 1 team at the center of the relief effort in Chengdu, and another in Beijing purchasing needed supplies. Together with HTS we are making a difference for children in need!!
Our team is now directly using donated $$ to purchase desperately needed items, like: medicine, tents, baby formula, diapers, cots, blankets, clothes, etc.
However, we need your help to continue buying and distributing these items. There is a long long road ahead.
And the funds you donate will in most cases result in supplies reaching affected areas within 24-48 hours. That's how fast the system we have put in place is working. Production expertise CAN be used effectively for disaster relief.
To show our commitment, which will hopefully encourage others, we have donated $10,000 USD to Half the Sky relief effort. Within 1 day of that donation, we were purchasing supplies and sending them to Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, where the epicenter was located.
